I pulled the radio out of my MkIV Golf to install an AUX cable I hoped would play my iPhone through the CD changer connection (it doesn't work, radio says "No Changer". No big deal, I'm only out a few bucks). However, I can't get the radio back in. In pulling the radio forward, the cables came with it, and now I can't get the radio back in because the cables are bunched behind it. I'm not sure how to get to the area behind the radio. There's a plastic skirt around the center console I could remove, but it requires some specific size of Torx screwdriver (fuck you, VW) that I don't have. Any suggestions?
Edit: I got it in, but I had to push harder than I would have liked. Everything seems to be working, so I guess it's good to go.

Thanks for the link, but that's WAY more work than I'm up to. It would be easier to buy a cheap radio with an built-in AUX plug.

About the CD changer/Aux cable converter cable; I initially didn't get mine to work either. I had to access a hidden menu to enable it. My Pioneer head unit does seem much more complex than yours though, so yours might not have such a menu.

I think you might need larry's help to detail your car

I'm almost certain it doesn't. I'm probably only going to have this car another year or so, and I've used my trusty cassette adapter for all these years (it's an '01). This was just an attempt at a cheap workaround. Cost my $15 for the cable and the keys to pull the radio, and they have different heads so I might be able to use them again.

Larry? Nah, this thing is sold old and dirty that it's not worth it. It's like that pair of sneakers you tried to keep white until they weren't white and then it didn't matter. I would like to fix the falling headliner, though.

Buy a set of torx. Tools are an investment.

Yeah, I think so. I'm not much of a wrencher, though. However, sometimes you come up against something and you just need the right tool, even for something simple.

Good lord. I read a book titled "Chickenhawk" about Huey pilots in Vietnam. Great book, BTW. The author talked about how they would land the choppers in the water, flooding the passenger compartment, to wash out the blood after medevac flights.

Shit, I didn't read your whole post. I went to work right after reading "No changer, doesn't work"
They sell adapters that will use the CD changer input and leave you with dual RCA. That way, you just switch to "changer" and the head unit will think it has one, and just wait for the other device to play the music.
Only thing, is they are like $100
Mrs McMike wanted to play her iPod soooooo bad in her car. Her 2002 factory radio was perfect, and I wasn't going to hack up a perfectly good dash so she could enjoy her Lillithfair playlist.
Back then, it was worth it.
